Free Vessel Safety Checks

Have your boat checked for safety equipment and other state and federal requirements by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary trained examiners.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary will provide Vessel Safety Checks again this year for all boaters at Squalicum Harbor marina. Qualified vessel examiners will be available to answer boating safety questions and to inspect vessels for required safety equipment on the following dates/locations:

            Gate 8- March 29, Sat. 9AM-Noon

            Gate 9- April 19, Sat. 9AM-Noon

Gate 3- May 3, Sat. 9AM-1PM Opening Day

The Vessel Examiners who perform the VSC's are specially trained Auxiliary personnel who are kept informed on the latest legal requirements for boaters. The Vessel Examiners have no legal authority and do NOT issue citations. Our focus is to help prevent boaters from getting equipment related citations. Vessels that pass the examination are awarded the Seal of Safety to be placed on the vessel.

This is a free, annual service, to provide boat owners and operators with the information they need to have a safe and legal boating experience.

We will check your boat in the water or on your trailer at the marina or at the place you keep it. You do not have to be at one of the scheduled events.

There is no penalty if your boat fails to meet full compliance. You will simply be given a report listing the deficiencies found, along with encouragement to make corrections on your own. Your boat may at your request be rechecked at some convenient time in the future.

There are new State boating laws that take effect Jan. 2008 including operator permits for boaters 12-20 years old and remember to have your CO sticker affixed to the interior of any power driven vessel. Vessel examiners can also provide additional boating safety information.
